First Hike!

On Sunday April 5th, 2009, four dudes started an epic journey.

We started around noon at the southern terminus, in Niagara falls.

Where's Grambo:

Not too much to say about the first hike. Everyone forgot their cameras except Chris, who's batteries were low and ran out after three pics.

Trail was pretty good for the most part, only started getting muddy near the end.

The guide book we were working with is several years old, and so our 14K target length was a bit off. The trail was shortened a bit and so we ended up doing about 11K. Chris picked up a new book this week, so we should be all set on the next trip.

Chris got a pretty nasty sprained ankle near the end of the trip, soft spot in the mud. It looked pretty painful, but he was a real trooper and finished the last 2K without any complaints.

We ended the trip just after the screaming tunnel in St. Catharines. We'll pick it up there, hopefully later this month.

A quick summary of the statistics so far:

Bad Puns: over 30
Snakes Spotted: 2
Ankles Sprained: 1
Beers Consumed: 0

Hopefully by the end of this trip, the number of beers consumed will exceed the number of sprained ankles.
