June 3rd, 2017: KM 499.7 - 517.9

(Beaver Valley 55.6 - 73.8)

After an early wake up, and a long drive, Chris and I started our hike from Eugene Falls at around 9:30. It was a bit cool in the morning, but the weather looked like it was going to be great.

We saw a large family of Mennonites looking out at the falls.

The hike began in the woods, and there were a lot of mosquitoes. Luckily the mosquitoes subsided pretty quickly.

Throughout the day the hike went back and forth between wooded areas and fields. It was actually quite nice to get alternating sun and shade.

There was ample opportunity for Eily to swim at the many rivers we crossed.

Hogg's Falls was the second of many waterfalls we got to see along this section of the hike.

Many spring flowers were blooming. Plenty of Trilliums to see all day.

One section of the forest was full of ferns.

We saw a duck flapping its way across our path (it looked injured) and saw that it had over a dozen babies in tow. I took the opportunity to video them chasing after their mother.

Immediately after this we saw a mother and baby deer in the forest, but I was not quick enough to catch it on camera. We did however find a hunting cabin shortly later.

Eily was loving jumping through the fields of dandelions

In the end we hiked about 18.2 kms in ~4.5 hours. It was a really beautiful hike.
