This hike was NOT 17.4km. It WAS very tiring.

May 21st, 2023: KM 749.2 - 768.9

(Peninsula 22.9 - 42.6) First hike of 2023 with Chris and Eily yesterday! We targeted Hope's Bay for our final destination. Eily and I met Chris at Hope's Bay just after 11am, then drove to the start spot, and got on the road at 11:35. It was a nice sunny day with a cold breeze. Perfect hiking weather. A large group of people entered the woods just ahead of us. It took us a few minutes to pass them all. This hike took us around the outskirts of two different Bluffs. The first one, south of Sydney Bay, is called Jones Bluff. Our first views were to the south, towards Kings Point Bluff. There were huge birds of prey flying around here. The trail took a turn, and the views changed to north / north east, towards the tip of the peninsula. Then the trail turned some more, and we could start to see Sydney Bay. You could see the bluffs on the other side of Sydney Bay, that we'd be hiking on soon. The trail led down from the bluff, and into a campground on the edge of Sydney Bay

October 17-18th 2017: KM 454.7 - 517.9

(Beaver Valley 14.5 - 73.8) So Anthony and Jamie finally made it out again! We missed posting a blog for our last section October 2016 that brought us to this starting point. Because we weren't able to make it out onto the trail in almost exactly a year. we have fallen behind the Smith Bros. In order to make up that difference we opted for a 2 day excursion with and overnight stay in Eugenia Falls at an Airbnb. We decided it would be a good idea to pack up the bikes and hit the road between the starting and ending points of the hike to save on some cab fare. The weather was great for this time of year and it seamed like a good idea after researching the grade for the bike ride. Boy were we wrong! There was so much wind and the it turned out to be a lot more uphill biking than we had thought. the trip went like this: Day 1 We parked the car at the 14.5km and bikes to the 41.7km mark on our maps in edition 25. The ride ended up being 22.11 km and took us 1h 50min to c

July 9th, 2012: Half Dome, Yosemite Valley, CA

Fiona and I (Graham) booked a week off work so that we could visit California. The plan was to spend the first half of the trip in Yosemite Valley, and the second half in Napa Valley. During our time in Yosemite, my plan was to try and hike up Half Dome, something I had learned was possible on my previous trip there (but did not have time to do). The day before we left to go, while printing the directions for everything, I discovered that they had introduced a permit system for the last section of the Half Dome hike (Quarter Dome + the cables). The only way we would be able to hike Half Dome would be if we could win a daily lottery for the remaining 50 permits. We arrived in California, spent a day in San Francisco, then drove to Yosemite. We parked around the north side of the park, and started hiking around some of the smaller trails.
