(Dufferin Hi-land 0.0km - 15.2km) Chris, Luis & Graham
Did another hike yesterday, this time with special guest Luis, exactly one week before he's getting married!
We parked at the end of the route, near the Super and Champ Burger joints, and then drove back to the entrance to Mono Cliffs. Some pictures of Graham in his underwear were taken at this point, but these have been omitted for your benefit.
Upon entering the woods, we immediately realized that mosquito repellent would have been a good idea. We were swarmed pretty much any time we were in the bushes, getting breaks only in the sunny open areas.
After about 1km of hiking into the park, we reached two small lakes. There were tons of fish here swimming around near the shore. Also some super loud croaking frog that we were not able to see.
A bunch of hiking, mostly up hill followed this.. We passed some hikers going the other direction who asked us how far the cliff top was (they were going the wrong way but we did not realize that at the time). "Research Matters".
At about the 4km mark, we found the cliff top ourselves. We watched little birds attacking the vultures/hawks from here for a little while.
A short way from the viewing platform, we found staircase leading down the side of the cliff face. There was a woman and her dog coming up, and Luis made a new friend.
We went down the stairs, which led to a viewing platform between two rock faces.
Climbing back up the stairs, we continued hiking, and found a second lake near the 5km mark. Ate some jerky here and quickly left due to mosquitoes :(
Another 3km or so brought us out to a long road.
We hiked the road for about 2km, then cut back into some farmers fields.
After the farmland section, the trail popped back out on to roads for about 2 kilometers, which we made quick work of to get back to the car.
Overall a really nice day! (Except for the mosquitoes!). Took us around 4 hours total.
